The Black Princess leads home a Darley-sired trifecta in the Lancashire Oaks

Daughter of Iffraaj records first G2 win to continue her sire’s superb season

Iffraaj is enjoying a banner year, siring three individual G1 winners headed by Europe’s highest-rated racehorse Ribchester. On 8 July, his progressive daughter The Black Princess put up another impressive performance to take the G2 Lancashire Oaks at Haydock.

Settled off the pace under Robert Tart, The Black Princess began to make headway once entering the straight and taking the lead from Abingdon (Street Cry) inside the final furlong, kept to her task superbly to win by half a length. Teofilo’s useful daughter Ajman Princess added further Black type to her record, finishing third.

This was the third Stakes win for the John Gosden-trained filly, who won the Listed Prix Solitude at Saint-Cloud late last year, before reappearing with a victory in the G3 Prix Allez France this April. She could now aim to complete a northern Oaks double, as she holds an entry in next month’s G1 Darley Yorkshire Oaks.

The Black Princess was bred by Petra Bloodstock and is out of Larceny (Cape Cross), a half-sister to G1 Prix Diane Hermes winner Latice, herself dam of Street Cry’s multiple Stakes winner Fencing.

In addition to Ribchester (winner of the Queen Anne and the Lockinge in 2017), Iffraaj is also sire of G1 Australian Derby hero Jon Snow, plus G1 Rosehill Guineas and G1 New Zealand Derby winner Humidor.
