Belardo sires his first winner

Golden Melody impresses on her debut at Haydock

European Champion two-year-old Belardo sired his first winner on Sunday, 7 June when his daughter Golden Melody made a successful debut at Haydock Park. She was always travelling well under jockey James Doyle, and when asked for her effort in the final furlong, Golden Melody quickened well to win by two and a quarter lengths.

Bred by Ennistown Stud and a 52,000gns yearling, Golden Melody is one of five winners out by the Lomitas mare Chanter, a half-sister to G1 King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes winner Belmez. Chanter also has a full-sister yearling to Golden Melody.

Belardo, a grandson of Shamardal, won the G1 Dewhurst Stakes in a juvenile season that saw his crowned European Champion. He was also victorious in the G1 Lockinge Stakes as a four-year-old and his first yearlings were well received last season with three selling for €150,000 or higher.
