Belardo the latest young Darley stallion to welcome his first foal

‘Cracking’ filly foal out of half-sister to G1 winner Maybe arrives

As the new foaling season begins to pick up pace, the first reported foal by G1 Dewhurst and G1 Lockinge winner Belardo arrived at Ferdlant Stud on Tuesday, 23 January.

Out of the winning Acclamation mare Mayberain, who is owned by Thomas Radley, the filly was described by Ferdlant Stud’s Lianne Barrett as, “A cracking stamp of a foal, very correct and good bone.

“She is very forward and confident and was up and sucking within 20 minutes. I am extremely impressed with how she is put together.”

She is the first foal out of Mayberain, a half-sister to G1 Moyglare Stud Stakes winner and G1 1,000 Guineas third, Maybe. Mayberain’s own dam, Stakes-winning juvenile Sumora, is a three-parts sister to dual Oaks winner Dancing Rain, herself dam of Magic Lily (New Approach), who finished third in last year’s G1 Fillies Mile.

Belardo was crowned European Champion Two-Year-Old after a superb juvenile campaign that culminated with victory in the G1 Dewhurst Stakes. He went on to finish second to superb miler Solow (Singspiel) in the G1 QEII Stakes before landing the G1 Lockinge Stakes at four.

Belardo stands at Kildangan Stud at a fee of €15,000 October 1, Special Live Foal.
