Back-to-back victories in the Jockey Club Rose Bowl for Caucus

Son of Cape Cross leads home Statutory (Authorized) at HQ

Caucus has been a tough campaigner for his sire Cape Cross for no fewer than five seasons now and on the opening day of Newmarket’s Cambridgeshire meeting he landed the Listed Jockey Club Rose Bowl for the second consecutive year.

Stalking the early pace set by Statutory (Authorized), Caucus was always travelling smoothly and with a well-timed move a furlong from home by jockey William Buick, he soon took the lead and stayed on superbly to win by two and a quarter lengths.

This was the second Stakes win this year and third overall for John Gosden’s charge, who was second to subsequent G1 Ascot Gold Cup winner Estimate in the G3 Sagaro Stakes at Ascot earlier in the season.

Owned and bred by Normandie Stud, Caucus is out of the Stakes-placed Sadler’s Wells mare Maid To Perfection, also dam of fellow Listed winner Queen Of Pentacles.

Cape Cross is sire of 22 individual Stakes performers this year so far, and has sired no fewer than nine G1 winners during his illustrious career.
