Back-to-back stakes wins for Cavalryman

Son of dual Eclipse hero Halling scores on Sandown's big day

Halling twice won the Eclipse Stakes at Sandown and, fittingly, his son Cavalryman played a leading role on this year’s Eclipse card by winning the Listed Esher Stakes immediately after the main race. King's Best gelding Chiberta King took third.

The admirable six-year-old Cavalryman, whose six wins include the G1 Grand Prix de Paris and G2 Prix Niel, took the Listed Grand Cup at York on his previous start in May and delivered yet another tough performance over a testing two miles on Saturday.

Like Street Cry’s daughter Falls Of Lora, who won the Listed Distaff Stakes earlier on the card, Cavlaryman was bred by Darley. His dam is the Highest Honor mare Silversword, whose five winners include the G3-placed Finity.

Twenty-one-year-old Halling, who stands in Newmarket at Dalham Hall Stud, is the sire of 44 stakes winners, including G1 Prix Ganay winner Cutlass Bay and Bauer, who lost out on a Melbourne Cup victory by a nose.
