Cape Cross’s Golden Horn takes the Dante to remain unbeaten

A month after his impressive win in the Listed Feilden Stakes at Newmarket, Cape Cross’s three-year-old son Golden Horn maintained his perfect record when stepping up in class with consummate ease to better a high-class field to take the G2 Dante Stakes at York.

Settling beautifully towards the rear under William Buick, Golden Horn was always travelling well and looming up on the outside as the field began to quicken for home, swept past his rivals to win by two and three quarter lengths. John Gosden’s charge holds an entry in the French Derby, for which he is around 7-1, with a decision yet to be made regarding an alternative trip to Epsom.

Bred by Hascombe and Valiant Studs, Golden Horn is out of Fleche d’Or, making him a half-brother to last year’s Ballymacol Stud Stakes winner Eastern Belle. The mare is herself a half-sister to the great racemare Rebecca Sharp.

Cape Cross has ten individual Stakes performers to his name so far this year, including fellow Group winner Karpino, currently favourite to take next Sunday’s German 2,000 Guineas. Cape Cross stands at Kildangan Stud at a fee of €20,000 October 1st SLF.
