Formal Display became the 39th Stakes winner for Too Darn Hot with a determined victory in the G3 Alan Brown Stakes (1,400m) at Rosehill on Saturday 10 October, 2026.
Ridden by Kerrin McEvoy, the Annabel and Rob Archibald-trained gelding defeated Estadio Mestalla by a long neck, with Linebacker a further half-length away in third.
Formal Display won twice in Ireland before arriving in Australia in late 2024. He had won five races for Triple Crown Syndications since joining the Archibald stable, with his latest success delivering his first at Stakes level.
The five-year-old will now be aimed at the $3 million Big Dance at Randwick on Tuesday 3 November.
Formal Display is out of G1 winner Passage Of Time, who has also produced G2 winner and stallion Time Test, G3 winner Tempus and Listed winner Cosmic Year.
He was purchased by Blandford Bloodstock, Triple Crown Syndications and the Archibald stable at the 2024 Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training Sale.
Too Darn Hot’s Australian progeny are headed by Champion two-year-old and Darley stallion Broadsiding, G1 Oakleigh Plate winner Tropicus and dual G2 winner Bangkok Hottie.
The quality of support behind Too Darn Hot was again evident in 2025. His book of 110 mares included six Champions, 16 G1 winners, 55 Group winners and 71 Stakes winners. It also featured the dams of 12 G1 winners.
Among the mares covered were Winx, Arcadia Queen, Alizee, In Secret, Lady Laguna and the dams of Cylinder, Tentyris, Observer and Joliestar.
Too Darn Hot stands at Kelvinside for $275,000 including GST.
