Breakthrough G1 win for son of Blue Point

Samangan lands the Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville

Samangan, a three-year-old son of Blue Point, landed his first G1 on Sunday, 9 August when winning the Prix Maurice de Gheest. Always prominent in Deauville’s 1300m contest, he battled gamely to record a narrow success.

Recording his first victory as a three-year-old, Samangan had completed a hat-trick last season including the G3 Prix Eclipse and the G2 Criterium de Maisons-Laffitte.

Owned and bred by the Aga Khan, Samangan is a son of the winning Oasis Dream mare Samadrisa, a half-sister to G1 winner Sarafina.

Blue Point in enjoying an excellent season, siring eight Group winners including star filly Blue Bolt, winner of the G1 Falmouth Stakes and G1 Prix Rothschild, unbeaten G2-winning juvenile Inner City Blues and Group-winning sprinters Elmonjed and Rayevka.
