The juvenile maiden on Chantilly’s French Derby undercard is usually a hot race, and on Sunday 31 May Perfect Power sired his first winner through impressive debutant Rouhi. Making his debut in the 1100m contest, and facing a tricky outside draw, he swept though from the rear to collar the leader Calyx Express near the line.
Bred by Mr & Mrs T E Hughes, Rouhi is the first winner bred out of Quartet, a relative of G1-winning sprinter Shaquille. He was a recent Breeze up purchase at Goffs UK for £47,000 for current connections.
Perfect Power was a brilliant juvenile, winning the G2 Norfolk at Royal Ascot before landing a G1 double in the Morny and Middle Park Stakes. He returned to sprinting as a three-year-old when winning the G1 Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot.
