Gerringong completes Australian G3 double for Blue Point

Five-year-old mare lands the Nivison Stakes at Rosehill as Point Barrow strikes at Caulfield

Blue Point sired an Australian G3 double on Saturday, headed by Gerringong’s victory in the G3 Nivison Stakes at Rosehill.

The five-year-old mare raced wide under Tyler Schiller but battled strongly to record her first Stakes victory on her return from a spell.

Owned and bred by John Singleton, Gerringong won her first two starts and had been Stakes-placed on five occasions before her breakthrough on Saturday.

She is out of the More Than Ready mare This Time Bridie, a sister to G3 winner War and a three-quarter sister to four-time G1 winner More Joyous.

Earlier in the day, Blue Point’s daughter Point Barrow landed the G3 Northwood Plume Stakes at Caulfield, her second consecutive victory at that level.

Gerringong becomes the 35th Stakes winner for Blue Point, who is enjoying another outstanding season led by G1 winners Blue Bolt, Folsom Blues and Samangan.
