The opening race at Sandown saw first-season sire Perfect Power produce his second winner with Phil Cunningham’s £140,000 Goffs yearling purchase, Underdog. The debutant, trained by Richard Spencer, showed early speed and raced prominently throughout the 5f contest, leading by over one length in the closing stages to record the comfortable win over Viking Barbie.
The colt, bred by Crossfield Bloodstock, is out of 5f Listed-winning mare Excelette (Exceed And Excel).
Perfect Power’s first winner was recorded on the 31 May when fellow debutant colt Rouhi won a maiden at Chantilly. The best sprinter of his generation, Perfect Power won three G1s, including the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot. He stands at Dalham Hall Stud, UK.
