Blue Bolt added a well-deserved first Group win to her CV in fine style on day two of Ascot’s Royal meeting when powering to victory in the G2 Duke Of Cambridge Stakes.
Breaking smartly under Colin Keane, the Andrew Balding-trained filly was settled in mid division for much of the one-mile contest. Asked for her effort inside the final two furlongs, she responded brilliantly to soon take the lead and win by a length and three quarters.
This was Blue Bolt’s fifth career victory and her third at Black Type level, having won the Listed Coral Distaff at Sandown last year and the Listed Conqueror Fillies’ Stakes at Goodwood this May. She was also second to Fallen Angel (Too Darn Hot) in the G1 Sun Chariot Stakes last October. She will now step back up to G1 level, with the Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket’s July meeting her next target.
Blue Bolt was bred by C-Squared Investments and was purchased for €400,000 by Juddmonte as a yearling. She is out of the Group-winning Whipper mare Mayhem, dam of two further Stakes winners in Sea Theme and Sky Angel.
Blue Point is also sire this year of fellow G2 winners Dubai Beach and Elmonjed, while on the opening day of Royal Ascot yesterday, his smart sprinter Rayevka came agonisingly close to winning the G1 King Charles III Stakes, beaten just a head.
