Sepoy colt brings $520,000 on day two of the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale

First-season sire continues to prove popular with buyers in Sydney

After a solid start on Tuesday, yearlings by the Darley stallions continued to sell well at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale during the second session.

Sepoy provided the highest price of the day for a Darley-sired yearling, as Willow Park Stud’s colt out of Irish Blues was secured by Shadwell for A$520,000. The mare is a full sister to two G1 winners in Champion filly Shamrocker (who won both the Australian Derby and Guineas) and Auckland Cup winner Rock Diva. The colt is Irish Blues’ first foal.

Exceed And Excel, who was responsible for the top filly during the opening day’s trading, once again proved a popular choice with buyers, with his highest price of the day an even half-million dollars for his filly out of G3 winner and Group producer Charmview (Royal Academy). Offered by Marquee Stud as agent, she was also bought by Shadwell Australia.

Later in the session, Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa al Maktoum gave a final bid of A$440,000 for Highgrove Stud’s Exceed And Excel filly out of the G2-placed Elusive Quality mare Emotional Circus. She is from the family of Champion sire Fastnet Rock.

The third and final session of the sale will take place tomorrow.
