Havanna Belle opens Teofilo’s 2016 Stakes account

Four-year-old filly takes the Astra Stakes at Santa Anita

Teofilo recorded his first Stakes winner of the new year on 17 January when his daughter Havanna Belle ran out the convincing winner of the $75,000 Astra Stakes, run over 12 furlongs on the Santa Anita turf.

Settled in third position, Havanna Belle travelled well throughout and making her move at the top of the home straight, cruised into the lead and kept to her task superbly to win by two and a quarter lengths.

Havanna Belle was bred in Ireland by Holborn Trust Co and is out of the multiple winner Irina (Polar Falcon), who is from the family of G1 winners Water Boatman and Nannina.

Teofilo enjoyed a superb year in 2015, siring no fewer than nine G1 performers and 41 Group or Stakes horses, headed by Irish 1,000 Guineas and Yorkshire Oaks heroine Pleascach.

Teofilo stands at Kildangan Stud at a fee of €50,000 October 1st SLF.
