Dubawi sires two more Group winners at Newmarket

Arabian Crown dominates in G3 Zetland Stakes; Highland Avenue strikes in G3 Darley Stakes

Dubawi was the sire of a third new juvenile Group winner at Newmarket’s Future Champion’s meeting. Following on from brilliant wins by Dance Sequence (G3 Oh So Sharp Stakes) on Friday, 13 October and Ancient Wisdom in today’s G3 Autumn Stakes, Arabian Crown was another two-year-old to show plenty of promise when landing the G3 Zetland Stakes on Saturday, 14 October.

The charge of Charlie Appleby, Arabian Crown jumped smartly and was soon taken to the front by William Buick. Travelling strongly throughout the ten-furlong race, the colt made all to produce a dominant display. Stretching clear of the field with two furlongs to run he went on to score by an impressive five and a half lengths.

Arabian Crown is already a Listed winner having won the Stonehenge Stakes at Salisbury by a comfortable two and a quarter-lengths. He is now the winner of three races from four starts.

Bred in France by G B Partnership, Arabian Crown was a €600,000 Arqana Deauville August Yearling purchase. He is the one of seven winners produced by the Stakes-winning mare Dubai Rose (Dubai Destination), who also include G2-scorer The Juliet Rose and Stakes performers, Everest Rose and Pocketfullofdreams.

Champion sire, Dubawi, added another new Group winner to his tally this afternoon when his son, Highland Avenue, produced a brilliant performance to strike in the G3 Darley Stakes, just half-an-hour on from Arabian Crown’s win.

The five-year-old grey gelding, who is trained by Charlie Appleby, travelled prominently throughout the race on the stands side group, he hit the front entering the final furlong and under William Buick, he pulled clear in good style to record a four length win, adding a second Black Type victory to his c.v. as he is a previous winner of the Listed Feilden Stakes.

Owned and bred by Godolphin, Highland Avenue is out of G1 Cheveley Park Stakes heroine Lumiere (Shamardal), she was Champion filly at two and is an own-sister to Sheikha Reika, winner of the G1 E P Taylor Stakes.

Highland Avenue was Dubawi’s 34th individual Group winner so far this season. Seven have won at G1 level, including Modern Games, Eldar Eldarov, Al Husn and Henry Longfellow.
