Another new winner for Space Blues

Polly Shelby makes a successful debut at Cholet

First-season sire Space Blues added his second new winner in less than a week on Monday, 2 June when his daughter Polly Shelby won at the first time of asking at Cholet, France.

Settled just behind the pace early on in the 1,350m contest, the Francis Graffard-trained filly came wide around the final turn before storming down the centre of the track to win going away by two lengths.

Bred in France by China Horse Club, Polly Shelby is out of the winning Shalaa mare Grace Shelby, herself a daughter of four-time Group winner Naissance Royale.

Space Blues was the winner of the G1 Breeders’ Cup Mile, G1 Prix de la Forêt, G1 Prix Maurice de Gheest, G2 Lennox, G2 City Of York, the valuable 1351 Turf Sprint in Saudi – plus his only start at two.

The son of Dubawi is also sire of another first-time-out winner in Power Blue, who has since gone on to place in both Listed and Group company.

Last Friday his son Bourbon Blues skipped to a four-and-a-half-length victory at Brighton.
