York Stakes glory for Mukhadram

The son of Shamardal wins his second Group race of the season

Mukhadram, a progressive son of Shamardal, won his second Group race of the season on Saturday July 27 when making all the running to land the G2 York Stakes. Run over the same course and distance as the G1 Juddmonte International in August, he was gaining his due reward for a series of excellent runs behind Al Kazeem (Dubawi) in the Prince Of Wales's Stakes and Eclipse Stakes. A return trip to the Knavesmire for the Ebor meeting now looks the likely next step.

Bred by Wardall Bloodstock and bought as a yearling by Hamdan Al Maktoum for 190,000Gns, he is out of the Timber Country mare Magic Tree, who has also produced this season's G3 Musidora third Woodland Aria (Singspiel). Magic Tree is very well related being a half-sister to St Leger winner Mastery and Italian G1-winner Kirklees and a granddaughter of multiple G1-winning sprinter Cherokee Rose.

Mukhadram is one of 28 Stakes horses for Shamardal in 2013, with seven of those winning at Group level. He has a pair of G1-winners in Dan Excel (registered as Dunboyne Express) and Maybe Discreet; German classic-winner Akua'da and Puissance de Lune, a G2-winner in Australia and favourite for the Melbourne Cup.
