Darley’s young guns fire as Dubawi sires three Group winners on one afternoon and Shamardal sires a new juvenile G3 winner

Dubawi and Shamardal, Europe’s leading second-season sires, have both been enjoying outstanding seasons and between them, they recorded four Group winners on 18 September to take their number of winners at this level to 12 and 11 respectively.

Godolphin juvenile French Navy kicked off proceedings, maintaining his unbeaten record in style when winning the G3 Prix des Chenes at Longchamp.

Settled in second position under Maxime Guyon, French Navy was ridden on approaching the final two furlongs and taking the lead a furlong and a half out, kept on well to win by three quarters of a length from Havane Smoker (Dubawi).

Bred by Darley, French Navy is out of the Stakes-winning Woodmare mare First Fleet, making him a half-brother to this year's G3 Sovereign Stakes winner Sea Lord (Cape Cross).

Later on the Longchamp card, Dubawi’s first-crop son Prince Bishop came with a fantastic late run to win the G3 Prix du Prince d’Orange, run over ten furlongs.

Settled just off the early pace, the Andre Fabre-trained colt looked to have plenty to do as the field quickened for home but a canny ride from Maxime Guyon saw him move up on the inside and win by a short neck from stablemate Wealthy.

Bred by Thurso Limited, Prince Bishop is out of North East Bay, a half-sister to Listed winner Hold To Ransom and from the family of Juddmonte International winner Most Welcome.

Almost simultaneously, Dubawi sired another Group winner when two-year-old filly Majestic Dubawi landed the six-furlong G3 Firth Of Clyde Stakes at Ayr.

Always in a prominent position, the Mick Channon-trained filly took up the running a furlong from home and ran on superbly to win by a length from Shamardal's Ragsah - a half-sister to Dubawi's own sire Dubai Millennium.

Bred by P A Mason and now running in the colours of Jaber Abdullah, Majestic Dubawi is the first foal to race out of the Singspiel mare Tidal Chorus.

Not content with having added two new Group winners to his tally, Dubawi then saw his speedy daugther Astrophysical Jet confirm herself as a top-class sprinter, recording her second straight Group win when landing the G3 Dubai Airport World Trophy.
