Silk Stocking to Srikandi

Three-year-old Dubawi filly becomes the 70th Stakes winner for her sire

Having won three of her first four starts, three-year-old Dubawi filly Srikandi travelled to the Gold Coast and was simply too classy, winning the Listed Silk Stocking over 6f on May 3.

The lone three-year-old in the race, jockey Glen Boss allowed his filly to go forward to travel in the lead, and once the home turn was reached, it was evident she was handling the Heavy 10 track conditions as she sprinted clear, eased down to win her fourth race by two-and-a-quarter lengths from La Pieta.

The second successive Saturday Stakes winner in Australia for her sire after the G3 victory last weekend of Arabian Gold, the Victorian-trained filly will progress onto the lucrative riches on offer during the Brisbane Winter carnival in the coming weeks.

Bred by Mr J. Collins, Srikandi is out of the Hurricane Sky mare Raining, herself a half-sister to the dam of Listed winner PortofinoBay. Already the dam of the G3 Final Fling Stakes winner Rain Gal and the Listed placed Arjuna, this is also the family of G1 winner Pontormo and G3 winners Madame Shinko and Opiki.

The 70th individual Stakes winner for her sire and the 12th in 2014, Dubawi stands at Dalham Hall Stud at a fee of £100,000 alongside his G1-winning son Poet's Voice who stands at £12,000 Oct 1st, SLF.
