New Stakes winner for Shamardal

Dibayani streaks home to land the King George V Cup

Shamardal has been enjoying another very successful year, with two G1 winners already in Dunboyne Express and Maybe Discreet, plus a further five Group winners. On 7 June, he added his ninth Black type winner of 2013 when Dibayani gained his first Stakes win in the King George V Cup at Leopardstown.

Slowly away, the three-year-old colt was settled at the rear of the field and was still some way off the pace entering the straight. One the field began to quicken however, he made impressive headway and coming between horses, took the lead inside the final furlong and kept on well to land the 11-furlong contest by three-quarters of a length.

Winner of a maiden at the Curragh last year, Dibayani has never finished outside the first four and has been Stakes-placed twice previously.

Owned and bred by HH The Aga Khan, Dibayani is one of five winners out of the Stakes-placed Caerleon mare Dibiya. His third dam Dabilya is a half-sister to influential sire Darshaan and G1-winning filly Darara.

Shamardal, who is also sire of this year's German Guineas winner Akua’da, stands at Kildangan Stud at a fee of €50,000 October 1st SLF.
