A cork-popping performance

Street Cry’s son Saamidd remains unbeaten with victory in the Champagne Stakes at Doncaster

Godolphin’s two-year-old Street Cry colt Saamidd maintained his unbeaten record in atyle on September 11 with a hugely impressive victory in the G2 Champagne Stakes on St Leger day at Doncaster.

Settled off the early pace under Frankie Dettori, Saamidd swept past Waiter’s Dream with two furlongs left to run and skipped clear to win by two and a quarter lengths, beating two previous Group winners in the process. He will now step up in class again in the G1 Dewhurst Stakes, due to be run at Newmarket on 16 October.

Saamidd provided Godolphin with their second consecutive winner of this prestigious juvenile contest, following Poet’s Voice’s victory last year. The Dubawi colt has since won again at G2 level and is currently preparing for the G1 QEII Stakes at the end of this month.

Bred by Darley, Saamidd is out of the winning Galileo mare Aryaamm, whose own dam Zibeline is a half-sister to G1 winners Barathea and Gossamer.

Street Cry has now sired 15 individual Stakes winners in 2010, including G1-winning trio Here Comes Ben, Victor’s Cry and Zenyatta – who are among 12 winners at the highest level for their outstanding sire. Another of his G1 winners, Whobegotyou, also won at G2 level on Saturday when taking the Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes at Moonee Valley, Australia.
