Bonfire smokes them in Listed Grafton Cup

G2-winning son of Manduro scores first Australian Stakes win

Manduro’s G2-winning and G1-placed son Bonfire scored a determined victory in the Listed Grafton Cup in Australia, July 9.

From Manduro’s first crop, Bonfire was a very impressive winner of the G2 Dante Stakes at York at just his third career start before finishing sixth in the Derby at Epsom behind Camelot. At the end of his four-year-old season Bonfire was sold to Australian interests and joined the Gai Waterhouse stable.

Carrying top-weight in the Grafton Cup, Bonfire led from the outset and fought off several challengers in the straight to record his second Stakes victory and his first in Australia.

Bred by Highclere Stud and Floors Farming, Bonfire is out of the winning Night Shift mare Night Frolic – also dam of G2 winner Joviality (Cape Cross).

Bonfire is Manduro’s third Stakes winner in recent days following the Black type victories of Techno Queen and Fractional last weekend.
