Al Thakhira shines on Future Champions’ Day

Unbeaten daughter of Dubawi lands the G2 Rockfel Stakes in style, Blockade (Kheleyf) is second

Dubawi recorded his 15th individual Group winner of the year in impressive fashion on 12 October when his two-year-old daughter Al Thakhira swept home to land the G2 Rockfel Stakes at Newmarket.

Settled off the pace under Martin Harley, Marco Botti’s charge was always travelling well and once asked to quicken, soon put the race to bed as she eased clear to win by over three lengths. Blockade (Kheleyf) ran a tremendous race to finish second.

Al Thakhira is now unbeaten in two starts, having won in equally eye-catching fashion on her racecourse debut last month. She is now around 14-1 to land next year’s 1,000 Guineas.

HE Sheikh Joaan Bin Hamad Al Thani’s homebred is out of the Green Desert mare Dahama, a three-parts sister to Stakes winner and sire Bezrin and a granddaughter of G1 winner My Darling One.

Dubawi is also sire this year of triple G1 winner Al Kazeem, G1-winning sprinter Lucky Nine, G1 Al Maktoum Challenge victor Hunter’s Light and G1-winning juvenile Willow Magic.
