Quickfire double for Palace Pier

Pierchic wins at Chelmsford, swiftly followed by victory for Director’s Cut at Newcastle

First-season sire Palace Pier added two new winners to his record in the space of just a few minutes on Thursday, 27 November as his daughter Pierchic ran out the gutsy winner of the fillies’ maiden at Chelmsford before Director’s Cut was successful over a mile at Newcastle.

Godolphin homebred Pierchic raced prominently throughout the seven-furlong contest and prevailed in a sustained three-way battle close to home to win by a nose.

She is out of the Street Cry mare Fearless, making her a half-sister to Dubawi’s G3 winner and G1 Oaks second Dance Sequence.

Next up at Newcastle, the John and Thady Gosden-trained Director’s Cut broke well and was settled in second position under Luke Catton. The colt was hard pressed inside the final furlong by eventual second Eddaari but kept finding more and crossed the line a neck in front.

Bred by Jc Bloodstock & Goodwill Bloodstock, Director’s Cut is out of Lights On Me, also dam of dual G1 winner Light Infantry and three further winners.

Palace Pier has made a strong start with his first crop of runners, siring G1 Cheveley Park filly Royal Fixation and G3-winning duo A Bit Of Spirit and Dr Omran.

Palace Pier stands at Dalham Hall Stud at a fee of £32,000, Oct 1, SLF.
