Dubawi, who recently sired his 300th individual Stakes winner, continues to add to that tally and on Friday, 6 June his three-year-old daughter Formal looked another exciting prospect for her sire with a convincing victory in the Surrey Stakes at Epsom.
Settled in second position, Formal was always travelling well under Oisin Murphy. She took the lead three furlongs from home and ridden along inside the final furlong, kept to her task superbly to win by a length and a half.
Formal won two of her three starts at two, where she also finished fourth in the G2 Rockfel Stakes. Her trainer Andrew Balding indicated after the race that a return to Group company may now be on the cards in the G3 Oak Tree Stakes at Goodwood.
A homebred for Cheveley Park Stud, Formal is the first foal to race out of the G1-winning Frankel mare Veracious, making her a close relative of another Dubawi Black Type winner in Intimation.
Dubawi has now sired 16 individual Stakes winners in 2025, headed by G1 Lockinge winner Lead Artist and fellow top-flight victor Walk Of Stars. His son Delacroix is favourite to take the Derby at Epsom tomorrow.
