Sheikha Reika made a successful jump to Graded Stakes company when she rallied from just off the pace to win the G1 E.P. Taylor Stakes by three-quarters of a length at Woodbine Racecourse 13 October.
The three-year-old daughter of Shamardal provided jockey Andrea Atzeni with his second G1 win on the card. Just thirty minutes earlier, Atzeni captured the G1 Canadian International with Desert Encounter (Halling).
Sheikha Reika was settled just off the leaders through the early stages of the race. As the field entered the stretch, Sheikha Reika was put under a drive, eventually reeling in longtime leader Starship Jubilee to post the victory.
Bred in France by Mark Johnston, Sheikha Reika is out of the winning Tobougg mare Screen Star, making her a full sister to Lumiere, winner of the G1 Cheveley Park Stakes.
Shamardal is the sire of 2018 Stakes winners Blue Point, winner of the G1 King’s Stand Stakes; Emaraaty Ana, winner of the G2 Gimcrack Stakes and Aljazzi, winner of the G2 Duke Of Cambridge at Royal Ascot.
