The brilliant Group-race form shown by the progeny of Teofilo during August has continued into September with the victory of Happy Clapper in the G2 Tramway Stakes at Randwick.
Teofilo produced five Black Type winners in Europe during the month of August, including Ajman Princess in the G1 Darley Prix Jean Romanet.
And if his first-up success is any indication, Happy Clapper is racing in strong enough form to add to his sire’s G1 record.
Happy Clapper, already a winner at G2 and G3 level, enjoyed a perfect run just off the pace and after a brief tussle with the runner-up Tom Melbourne, drew clear to win by three-quarters-of-a-length and record, at the age of seven, the best win of his career.
One of 70 individual black-type winners for Teofilo, Happy Clapper was having his first start since finishing fifth to Winx in the G1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Randwick last April, ending an Autumn campaign highlighted by his G3 Newcastle Newmarket Handicap win.
During the same preparation he had finished second in the G1 Doncaster Mile with the best of his seven wins prior to the Tramway coming in the G2 Villiers Stakes in 2015.
Happy Clapper, who was bred by his owner Michael Thomas, has collected more than A$2.3 million in prizemoney from his eight wins and eight placings.
