First Group victory for Poet’s Word

Son of Poet’s Voice lands the G3 Glorious Stakes at Goodwood

Poet’s Word, a progressive four-year-old colt by Poet’s Voice, landed his biggest career success on Friday 4 August when gamely winning the G3 Glorious Stakes at Goodwood. Running on ground softer than ideal, he was held up early in midfield in the twelve furlong contest before making his move at the top of the straight. When asked to go by Ryan Moore, he picked up well and ran right to the line to record a one-and-a-half length victory.

Never out of the money in his nine career starts, the G1 Canadian International was put forward as his likely next step by Bruce Raymond, Saeed Suhail’s racing manager.

Bred by Woodcote Stud, Poet’s Word is a son of the Stakes-placed Nashwan mare Whirly Bird, who has produced five winners including Goodwood G3 scorer Malabar (Raven’s Pass) and Whirley Dancer, dam of this season’s G2-winning juvenile Beckford.

Poet’s Voice has been enjoying an excellent 2017 with Classic winners Poetic Dream and Mi Raccomando, G1 filly Perfect Rhyme and multiple G3 winner Voice Of Love. He also has had 13 two-year-old winners from his third crop, which is more than any other British-based stallion.
