A new Stakes winner for Shamardal

The Classically-entered Akatea wins the Listed Prix Finlande

Shamardal sired a new Stakes winner on Monday April 6 when his three-year-old daughter Akatea ran out the winner of the Listed Prix Finlande over 1800m at Longchamp. Holding future entries in the G1 Prix de Diane and the G1 Prix Saint-Alary, Akatea was winning her second successive start of the season after a Maiden victory at Chantilly in March.

Owned and bred by the Wildenstein family, Akatea is a half-sister to the Stakes performer Abilene and a daughter of the Peintre Celebre mare Altamira, who herself was Stakes-placed. From the top family of Arcangues, Altamira is a sister to three Stakes winners.

This was Shamardal’s second Stakes winner to be bred out of Peintre Celebre mares after the unbeaten G3-winning sprinter Lightning Moon.

Shamardal, sire of 13 G1 winners to date, has made an exceptional start to 2015 through his G1-winning son Able Friend, impressive G3 Winter Derby hero Tryster, Australian G3-winning filly Shamalia and the Stakes winners Fond Words and Mawaal.

Shamardal stands at Kildangan Stud at a fee of €70,000 October 1st SLF.
