Son on Teofilo lands his first Stakes race

General Sherman easily takes the Listed Premio Gardone in Italy

Teofilo’s lightly-raced three-year-old colt General Sherman took the step up to Stakes company in his stride on Sunday April 5 when winning the Listed Premio Gardone by four lengths. Making his debut in November last year when second in Rome, he has subsequently won his next three starts and a tilt at the Italian 2,000 Guineas could now be a possibility.

Bred by Allevamento la Nuova Sbarra, General Sherman is a son of the Stakes-winning mare Cromac and a half-brother to five winners including the G3-winner Kykuit (dam of Shamardal’s Italian 2,000 Guineas-placed colt Ludovico Il Moro) and Manduro’s four-time winner Perfect World. Cromac is herself a half-sister to the grandam of Shamardal’s Italian Derby winner Crackerjack King and the globetrotting Jakkalberry.

General Sherman is the 34th Stakes winner sired by Teofilo, with six of these winning at the highest level including the Classic winners Trading Leather (Irish Derby); Voleuse de Coeurs (Irish St Leger) and Sonntag (Queensland Derby).

Teofilo stands the current season at a fee of €50,000 Oct 1st, SLF.
