Top lot for Singspiel, top filly for Dubawi

Six-figure foals for first-season sires New Approach and Raven’s Pass

The third session of Tattersalls' December Foal sale was billed to be the strongest day and it certainly lived to expectations with no fewer than 27 foals fetching six-figure sums.

Best of the day and top of the sale so far is a colt by the late Singspiel out of First from the Bloomsbury Stud dispersal. The half-brother to the Listed winners Perfect Stride and Law Lord was bought by Coolmore for 320,000gns.

Three foals by the outstanding young stallion Dubawi exceeded the 100,000gns mark, with the top filly of the sale (pictured, courtesy of Tattersalls), out of the Halling mare Cresta Gold, fetching 270,000gns when selling to Richard Frisby on behalf of two British-based clients. The filly was bred by Sylvia and Peter Tellwright of Tyrley Castle Stud and consigned for them by Furnace Mill Stud. Two Dubawi colts, another from the Furnace Mill draft and one from New England Stud, sold for 130,000gns and 120,000gns respectively.

The first foals of Raven's Pass have sold well in America and Ireland so far this season and on Friday, a colt out of Million Waves, a half-sister to Poule d’Essai des Pouliches winner Elusive Wave, was sold for 170,000gns. Fellow freshman New Approach had a filly reach the six-figure mark when the Goldford Stud-consigned half-sister to Fergus McIver made 100,000gns.

Shamardal is another young stallion whose popularity grows and grows, with three of his colts all selling in the top tier. Lisieux Stud’s son of the Green Desert mare Dama’a made 160,000gns, while a colt out of Group Three winner Perfect Touch was sold to London Thoroughbred Services for 140,000gns and New England’s colt out of the well-related Past The Post was knocked down for 100,000gns.

The final foal session takes place on Saturday.
