G2-winning Exceed And Excel colt Headwater recorded a determined victory over the older horses in the Listed Kensington Stakes over 1000m at Flemington, January 30.
A dominant winner of the G2 Silver Slipper as a juvenile at just his second career start, Headwater failed to recapture his best form as a Spring three-year-old last year. However, his first-up Kensington Stakes win over seasoned performers Bullpit and The Quarterback (Street Boss) suggests he will be a leading contender in the major autumn carnival sprints over the next two months.
Bred by Cressfield, Headwater is out of G1 Oakleigh Plate winner River Dove and is a full brother to Stakes-performed filly Fare Well.
Exceed And Excel enjoyed a terrific 2015 siring 26 Stakes winners worldwide. He will stand the 2016 breeding season at Kildangan Stud at a fee of €40,000, October 1st, SLF.
