Third stakes victory for Sommerabend

Son of Shamardal takes the Listed Prix Jacques de Bremond at Vichy

Sommerabend, winner of the G2 Grosse Europa-Meile in 2011, landed his third Stakes victory on Saturday July 20 when taking the Listed Prix Jacques de Bremond over a mile at Vichy, with Cielo Canarias, a son of Exceed And Excel, gaining his first Black-type back in third. Todays victory was Sommerabend's eighth in a 21-race career.

Bred by Gestut Schlenderhan, he is a son of the Stakes-winning Monsun mare Sommernacht and a half-brother to two Stakes winners in Sommertag and Sinnerman (both by Tiger Hill).

Sommerabend is Shamardal's 27th Stakes performer of 2013 with seven of those winning at Group level. He has a pair of G1-winners in Dan Excel (registered as Dunboyne Express) and Maybe Discreet; German classic-winner Akua'da; Puissance de Lune, a G2-winner in Australia and favourite for the Melbourne Cup and the highly-rated Brigadier Gerard winner Mukhadram.
