Son of Shamardal shines at Longchamp

French Navy takes the Prix des Chenes to become the 11th individual Group winner for his sire

Leading second-season sire Shamardal has been enjoying an outstanding season so far and on 18 September he recorded his 11th individual Group winner (and his ninth of 2010) when Godolphin juvenile French Navy maintained his unbeaten record to win the G3 Prix des Chenes.

Settled in second position under Maxime Guyon, French Navy was ridden on approaching the final two furlongs and taking the lead a furlong and a half out, kept on well to win the one-mile contest by three quarters of a length from Havane Smoker (by fellow Darley stallion Dubawi).

Bred by Darley, French Navy is out of the Stakes-winning Woodmare mare First Fleet, making him a half-brother to this year's G3 Sovereign Stakes winner Sea Lord (Cape Cross).
