Skiffle on trend at Goodwood

Daughter of Dubawi leads home a Darley-sired 1-2 in the Height Of Fashion Stakes

Dubawi’s three-year-old daughter Skiffle may have been making only her second racecourse appearance, but the Godolphin filly took a swift step up to Black type level in her stride when sweeping to victory in the Listed Height Of Fashion Stakes at Goodwood on 19 May.

Settled at the rear of the field under the in-form William Buick, Skiffle began to make headway two furlongs from home and challenging Iffraaj’s The Black Princess once inside the final furlong, battled superbly to move past the favourite and win by a length.

Trainer Charlie Appleby indicated after the race that a further step up in class could now be on the cards for his charge, with the G2 Ribblesdale Stakes at next month’s Royal meeting at Ascot cited as a possible target.

Skiffle is out of the Stakes-winning King’s Best mare Princesse Dansante, a half-sister to Group winner Brooklyn’s Dance, who has herself produced no fewer than six Stakes winners including G1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner Solemia. They are also from the family of another G1 winner in Darley stallion and Derby winner Authorized

Dubawi has now sired an impressive 21 individual Black type performers so far this year, headed by G1 winner Postponed and fellow Group winners Safety Check, So Mi Dar, Sheikhzayedroad, Dartmouth and Raseed.
