Safety Check storms to G2 victory at Meydan

Son of Dubawi runs out the wide-margin winner of the Al Fahidi Fort

Safety Check, a four-year-old son of Dubawi, maintained his 2015 unbeaten record in emphatic style on 22 January when landing the feature race on the Meydan card, the seven-furlong G2 Al Fahidi Fort.

Breaking smartly from the stalls, the Godolphin colt was settled just off the early pace under William Buick before making his move as the field turned for home. Once in front, the result never looked in doubt as he eased clear of his rivals to win by four lengths.

Bred by Malih al Basti, Safety Check is the first foal out of the unraced Royal Academy mare Doors To Manual – a half-sister to G1 winner Marchand de Sable. The mare is currently in foal to Champion two-year-old and World Champion three-year-old Sprinter Sepoy, whose first Australian-bred yearlings were the talk of the sales at Magic Millions earlier this month.

Dubawi, who sired five G1 winners last year alone and also in 2014 became the fastest sire ever to record 50 Group winners, stands at Dalham Hall Stud at a fee of £125,000 October 1st SLF. Standing alongside him is the aforementioned Sepoy, whose 2015 fee is £15,000 October 1st SLF.
