Record-breaking €2.6 million Dubawi colt lights up Arqana

First Rio de la Plata yearling sells for €250,000 on another successful day at the sales for the Darley stallions

On an even stronger day’s trading than the opening session at Arqana in Deauville, a strapping colt by leading sire Dubawi set a new record price for the sale when the hammer fell at no less than €2.6 million.

Offered for sale by Ecurie des Monceaux, he is out of the Group-winning Montjeu mare Pacifique, whose half-sister Prudenzia is dam of G1 winner Chiquita. He was bought by John Ferguson.

Having topped the first day, there was also further success for Shamardal as Shadwell went to €460,000 to secure his colt out of Rose et Noire – herself a daughter of G1 winner Royal Highness.

New Approach also made his presence felt when his colt out of Secrete, from the immediate family of G1 winner Plumania, was bought by Freddie Head for €350,000, while Shadwell gave €320,000 for a lovely Cape Cross colt out of Seschat.

Rio de la Plata enjoyed tremendous success with his very first yearling to go through the ring, as his well-bred colt out of Maka (already dam of two Stakes winners) went to John Ferguson for €250,000 – an astounding return on his 2013 covering fee of €7,000.

The sale continues today.
