Queen of the Knavesmire

Dubawi’s gutsy daughter Arabian Queen beats the boys in the G1 Juddmonte International

Dubawi’s three-year-old daughter Arabian Queen may have been the only filly and by some margin the smallest runner in today’s G1 Juddmonte International, but this certainly didn’t stop her from leading home some of the best horses in Europe as she stormed to victory on the Knavesmire to become her sire’s 10th G1 winner of 2015.

Soon in front under Silvestre de Sousa, David Elsworth’s charge eventually allowed Golden Horn’s pacemaker Dick Doughtywylie to take up the running. As the field entered the home straight, she once again took the lead and despite a sustained challenge from Cape Cross’s Derby and Eclipse winner, simply could not be caught and stayed on brilliantly to win by a neck.

A smart two-year-old who won the G2 Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes at Newmarket that year and reappeared on Oaks day at Epsom this June with a victory in the G3 Princess Elizabeth Stakes. She was third in the G1 Nassau Stakes at Goodwood earlier this month.

Bred by Jeff Smith’s Littleton Stud, Arabian Queen is the first foal to race out of the dual Lancashire Oaks winner Barshiba (Barathea). She foaled a full sister to Arabian Queen earlier this year.

Arabian Queen becomes an astounding tenth G1 winner this year for Dubawi, who is enjoying his most outstanding year yet. He is also sire of King George hero Postponed, French Derby winner New Bay, Dubai World Cup winner Prince Bishop, and Darley’s newest stallion – Night Of Thunder.
