Prix Eugene Adam for son of Shamardal

Progressive Dariyan takes G2 contest at Maisons-Laffitte

Three-year-old Shamardal colt Dariyan, last seen finishing a close fourth to subsequent Grand Prix de Paris winner Erupt (Dubawi), took his first Group race in style, sweeping home to land the G2 Prix Eugene Adam.

Winning the ten-furlong contest by a length and a half, Dariyan was recorded his third career victory, following a convincing maiden win at Saint-Cloud in May, before winning a 12-furlong Conditions race at the same course later that month. He was then just two lengths behind the still unbeaten Erupt in the G3 Prix du Lys on 15 June.

Owned and bred by HH The Aga Khan, Dariyan is out of the G1-winning Selkirk mare Daryakana, herself a daughter of another G1 winner in Daryaba.

Shamardal has now sired no fewer than 19 individual Black type winners in 2015, including G1 winners Able Friend and Dan Excel. He now has four G2 winners to his name this year alone.
