Prince Bishop impresses at Meydan

Dubawi’s son lands the G2 Al Maktoum Challenge R2 to record his fourth Group win

Prince Bishop has been a tough campaigner for his sire Dubawi, recording a Stakes win in every season he has raced and Saeed bin Suroor’s charge ensured he maintained that record for another year when landing the G2 Al Maktoum Challenge R2 at Meydan on Thursday.

Never far from the pace, Prince Bishop soon took up the running as the field turned from home and skipped clear of his rivals in a matter of strides. He then held off the late challenge from his stablemate African Story, keeping to his task well under Kieron Fallon to win by a length and a quarter.

Prince Bishop has now won at Group level on four occasions, including in the September Stakes last year. At three he beat Cirrus des Aigles to land the G2 Prix du Conseil de Paris.

Bred by Thurso Limited, Prince Bishop is out of North East Bay, a half-sister to two Stakes winners including Hold To Ransom – herself dam of G1 Australian Derby second Retrieve.

Dubawi, sire of no fewer than 18 individual Group winners last year (including five who were victorious at the highest level), is already sire of six Black type performers in 2014 including G1 winner Akeed Mofeed (who landed the HK-G1 Centenary Vase earlier this month).

He stands at Dalham Hall Stud at a fee of £100,000 October 1st Special Live Foal.
