Postponed shines in Dubai City Of Gold

Dubawi’s King George hero adds another Group victory to his record in impressive style

Postponed, a hugely talented and consistent son of Dubawi, recorded his fifth Black type win in tremendous fashion on 5 March as the five-year-old cruised to victory in the G2 Dubai City Of Gold on Super Saturday at Meydan.

Bowling along in third position, Postponed’s jockey Andrea Atzeni only needed to give his mount the slightest encouragement to quicken his pace and he then simply eased to the front and moved ever further from his rivals, eventually winning by three lengths.

Postponed won once at two, before returning at three with a third in the Craven Stakes. Later that season he won the Listed Glasgow Stakes to record his first Black type win en route to an impressive victory in the G2 Great Voltigeur Stakes at York. Last year, he was third (beaten just half a length) to his paternal half-brother Al Kazeem in the G1 Tattersalls Gold Cup before taking the G1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes in a thrilling finish last July. He rounded off his four-year-old campaign with a win in the G2 Prix Foy.

He will now be aimed at the Dubai Turf (formerly Dubai Sheema Classic), due to take place on Dubai World Cup night in three weeks’ time.

Bred by St Albans Bloodstock LLP, Postponed is out of the winning Dubai Destination mare Ever Rigg, herself a daughter of G1 Moyglare Stud Stakes winner Bianca Nera.

Postponed is one of 23 individual G1 winners for Dubawi so far, who is also sire of last year’s Dubai World Cup hero Prince Bishop, Sheikhzayedroad (winner of the G3 Nad Al Sheba Trophy earlier this week) and new Darley stallions Night Of Thunder and Hunter’s Light.
