Portage scores first Stakes success

Godolphin's son of Teofilo steps up in the Listed Silver Stakes

Portage, a four-year-old son of Teofilo, made his first start in Stakes company a winning one when successfully landing his seasonal debut in the Listed Silver Stakes at the Curragh on Saturday evening.

Trained by Michael Halford for Godolphin, Portage scored by a length in the ten furlong contest, drawing away to defeat a field of five rivals. The lightly-raced four-year-old has now finished in the first two in five of his eight starts, including victory in a valuable handicap at Ascot last season and second place in the Irish Cambridgeshire.

Out of the Zamindar mare Galley, Portage is a half-brother to Cape Magic (Cape Cross), a Listed winner in Italy, and hails from the family of the G2 juvenile winner Wharf and the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner Rail Link.
