Poet’s Voice off the mark with his first ever runner

Black Magic, the much-anticipated first runner by Poet's Voice, got his young sire off to the perfect start in his new career on 20 April, winning in convincing fashion on his racecourse debut at Pontefract.

Breaking smartly from the stalls, the Richard Fahey-trained colt certainly knew his job as he travelled superbly throughout and eased clear during the closing stages to win the five-furlong contest by three lengths.

Black Magic was bred by Corduff Stud and J Corcoran and is one of four winners out of the G2-winning Kendor mare Centofolia.

Poet’s Voice himself won the G2 Champagne Stakes as a juvenile, going on to win the G1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes and the Celebration Mile by four and a half lengths. He was Europe’s leading first-season sire at the sales last year, averaging no less than £110,000.

He stands alongside his sire, the great Dubawi, at Dalham Hall Stud at a fee of £12,000 October 1st SLF.
