Persistence pays off for Authorized entire

Complacent wins G2 Chelmsford Stakes

Perseverance has paid dividends for Godolphin after Authorized entire Complacent made a successful comeback after a two-year absence with victory in the G2 Chelmsford Stakes (1600m) at Randwick.

Complacent, who was having his second run back since placing in the 2013 G1 Victoria Derby at Flemington, led throughout over the famous Randwick mile for jockey Sam Clipperton. It was the five-year-old’s fifth win from nine starts and his third stakes victory.

The G2 win gave sire Authorized his 24th at stakes level, with trainer John O’Shea indicating there were more wins in store for the talented Complacent.

Complacent is out of Quest For Fame mare Insouciance, who is in foal to Medaglia d'Oro and produced a Teofilo colt last season. The mare also has a Helmet two-year-old ready to hit the racetrack.

Authorized is also the sire of this year’s G1 winner Hartnell, who also contested the Chelmsford Stakes, and Irish Listed winner Answered. Teofilo entire Kermadec, the winner of this year’s G1 Doncaster Handicap, finished second to Complacent on Saturday.
