October Stakes success for daughter of Shamardal

Pelerin victorious at Ascot to gain her second Black type win

Shamardal’s four-year-old daughter Pelerin, last seen finishing second in the G3 Sceptre Stakes in September, added a second Stakes win to her CV on 3 October with a very impressive victory in the Listed October Stakes at Ascot.

Marco Botti’s charge was settled just off the pace under jockey Martin Harley and looked to have plenty in hand as the field began to quicken. Once asked for her effort, Pelerin moved to the front with ease and kept to her task superbly to win by half a length from the fast-finishing Pack Together.

This was Pelerin’s fourth career win, having won her only start at two before landing the Listed Cooley Fillies’ Stakes last October.

Pelerin is out of the Stakes-placed Singspiel mare Fragrancy, also dam of Cape Cross's Black type performer Masarah. They are from the family of multiple G1 winner Hibaayeb, also by Singspiel.

Shamardal is enjoying an outstanding year, siring three G1 winners including last weekend’s Cheveley Park Stakes heroine Lumiere. His G2 Champagne Stakes winner Emotionless is currently favourite to follow in his sire's footsteps and take the G1 Dubai Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket next Saturday.
