New star for Cape Cross

Star Lahib wins her first Stakes race in Germany

Star Lahib, a daughter of Cape Cross, won her first Stakes race on Sunday April 21 when taking the Listed Grosser Preis von Rossmann over 2200m at Hannover. Previously trained by Mark Johnston where she was the winner of four races, this was her second start for her new German trainer Andreas Wöhler (although she is still owned by Jaber Abdullah) and her first run of the season.

Bred by Piercetown Stud, Star Lahib is out of the winning Lahib mare Cannikin and a full-sister to Stakes filly Moone Cross.

Cape Cross, who stands this season at a fee of €30,000, is now the sire of 87 Stakes winners including eight at top-flight level including the modern greats Ouija Board and Sea The Stars.

Star Lahib is his fourth Stakes winner of 2014 after G3-winning filly Lesstalk In Paris, who heads next to the Poule d'Essai des Pouliches, Dubai winner Asmar, who was also an excellent second in the G2 UAE Derby and Zurigha, who won a Listed race at Kempton only two days ago.
