New Stakes winner for Shamardal

A Shin Erwin makes a successful French debut, landing the Prix de Montretout at Maisons-Laffitte

Shamardal’s son A Shin Erwin has recently relocated from his owner/breeders’ native Japan and he ensured he opened his European racing account in winning fashion, taking the Listed Prix de Montretout, run over a mile at Maisons-Laffitte.

Bred in Ireland by KK Eishindo, A Shin Erwin is one of three winners from three foals to race out of the Stakes winner and G1 German Oaks second La Ina (Monsun), also dam of fellow Stakes winner Lateran Accord.

Shamardal is now sire of 14 individual Black type performers so far this year, headed by G1 Jebel Hatta winner Tryster and Dariyan, who landed the G1 Prix Ganay earlier this month. On Guineas weekend at Newmarket, Shamardal’s daughter Usherette (who races in the Godolphin blue) took a cracking renewal of the G2 Dahlia Stakes. She is due to reappear at Royal Ascot next month, before stepping up to G1 level in the Falmouth Stakes in July.

Shamardal also recently enjoyed further success as a sire of sires, as his G1-winning son Casamento recorded his first winner with an impressive six-length victory for Barrington at Windsor. The colt has since been allotted a Timeform figure of 100p – the second highest for any runner by a first-season sire this year.
