New Group winner for New Approach

Potemkin takes the G3 New Preis der Deutschen Einheit at Hoppegarten

New Approach’s four-year-old son Potemkin became the latest Group winner for his sire on 3 October, justifying odds-on favouritism to take the ten-furlong G3 Preis der Deutschen Einheit at Hoppegarten in Germany.

Settled in fourth position under Eduardo Pedroza, the Andreas Wohler-trained colt was asked to quicken at the two-furlong marker and soon took the lead, running on superbly to win by a length and a half. This was his sixth victory of 2015 and represented a successful step up in class from Handicap company.

Bred by Gestut Fahrhof, Potemkin is out of the Stakes-placed mare Praia (Big Shuffle), a half-sister to Champion two-year-old and G1 winner Paita. Praia is also dam of Stakes-winning filly Paraisa.

New Approach is also sire this year of Herald The Dawn, a full brother to Dawn Approach who landed the G2 Futurity Stakes en route to a creditable second in the G1 National Stakes. He is due to line up in tomorrow’s G1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere on Arc day at Longchamp.
