New Group winner for Dubawi

Danadana flies home to land the Huxley Stakes at Chester

Dubawi has, even by his high standards, been enjoying a purple patch of late and on 9 May he recorded his 12th individual Stakes winner of the year when his son Danadana landed the G3 Huxley Stakes at Chester.

Sent off as favourite for the ten-furlong contest, Luca Cumani’s charge did not look to be enjoying the Chester bends during the early stages of the race but under a persistent ride from Kieron Fallon, picked up superbly in the home straight and eventually won easily by three quarters of a length.

This was his fifth career victory and he will now be aimed at Ascot’s Royal Meeting.

Bred by Darley and running in the colours of Sheikh Mohammed Obaid, Danadana hails from a family that has served both his owner and trainer well in the past, as his dam Zeeba is a winning half-sister to Stakes winner Lost Soldier Three. Zeeba is also half-sister to Jumaireyah, herself dam of another of Dubawi’s talented sons in multiple G1-placed Afsare.

Dubawi is also sire this year of G1 winners Hunter’s Light and Willow Magic, plus last weekend’s G2 Jockey Club Stakes winner Universal. Danadana is one of 22 Group winners from his first two crops - a number unmatched by any other European stallion. Dubawi stands at Dalham Hall Stud at a fee of £75,000 October 1st SLF.
