New G1 winner for Shamardal

Speedy Boarding sweeps to Darley Prix Jean Romanet victory at Deauville with Dubawi’s Ame Bleue taking second; Nearly Caught (New Approach) lands G2 Darley Prix Kergorlay

Shamardal continued a tremendous weekend when, a day after Blue Point took the Gimcrack Stakes at York, his four-year-old daughter Speedy Boarding put up a tremendous performance to land the Darley Prix Jean Romanet, run over ten furlongs at Deauville.

Settled just off the pace, the James Fanshawe-trained filly was always in touch and came with a tremendous run down the home straight to win by a length and three quarters from Dubawi’s Ame Bleue. She provided her trainer with his second winner of the race in three years, following Ribbons’ (Manduro) victory two years earlier.

Bred by Meon Valley Stud, Speedy Boarding opened her Black type account with a win in the Listed Ballymacoll Stud Stakes last year and also won the G2 Prix Corrida at Saint-Cloud this May.

Shamardal has now sired 11 individual Group winners this year, including fellow G1 winners Tryster and Dariyan. Earlier on the Deauville card on Sunday, Shamardal filly Alrahma found only Lady Aurelia too good in the G1 Darley Prix Morny.

Also at Deauville on Sunday, New Approach added a new Group winner when his son Nearly Caught stormed home to take the G2 Darley Prix Kergorlay, winning by three and a half lengths.

This was the second Black type win for Hughie Morrison’s charge (who was bred by the Irish National Stud), who came into today’s race off the back of a five-length victory in the Listed Prix du Carrousel over the same course and distance last month.

New Approach is also sire this year of G1 winner Elliptique, plus G2 winners Beautiful Romance and Predator.
